NEB Solutions: Circular Motion

A bob of mass 200 gram is whirled in a horizontal circle of radius 50 cm by a string inclined at [latex]30^o[/latex] to the vertical. Calculate the tension in the string and the speed of the bob in the horizontal circle.

    Solution

    Given,

    Mass of bob (m) = 200 gm = 0.2 kg

    Radius (r) = 50 cm = 0.5 kg

    Angle of inclination [latex]\theta = 30^o[/latex]

    Tension (T) =?

Speed of the bob (v) =?

    We know that,

    [latex]T\cos\theta = mg[/latex]

    [latex]T\cos30^o = 0.2 \times 10[/latex]
