About This Course

NEB Grade XII · Chemistry

Chemistry in Grade XII moves from the physical-chemistry toolkit built in Grade XI into the reactions and mechanisms that actually get tested — equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and then a long, reaction-heavy stretch of organic chemistry that carries the bulk of the exam. This is also core content for engineering entrance exams like IOE and CEE, and medical entrance tracks like MBBS/BDS, so a solid grip on reaction mechanisms and named reactions pays off twice.

Course Structure: Four Major Units

UNIT 1 Chapters 1–5 · General and Physical Chemistry

General and Physical Chemistry

Builds the quantitative core of the syllabus — volumetric analysis and equivalent weight, ionic equilibrium (acids, bases, buffers, solubility product), chemical kinetics, thermodynamics (enthalpy, entropy, Gibbs free energy), and electrochemistry, closing with commercial batteries and fuel cells.

Volumetric Analysis Ionic Equilibrium Chemical Kinetics Thermodynamics Electrochemistry
UNIT 2 Chapters 6–7 · Inorganic Chemistry

Inorganic Chemistry

Covers transition metals — their oxidation states, complex ions, and catalytic behavior — then moves into the detailed chemistry of individually named heavy metals: copper, zinc, mercury, iron, and silver, including their extraction and key compounds.

Transition Metals Studies of Heavy Metals
UNIT 3 Chapters 8–17 · Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

The largest unit by far — functional-group chemistry built block by block: haloalkanes and haloarenes, alcohols and phenols, ethers, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and their derivatives, nitro compounds, amines, and organometallic/Grignard chemistry. Heavy on named reactions, mechanisms, and distinguishing tests.

Haloalkanes & Haloarenes Alcohols & Phenols Aldehydes, Ketones & Carboxylic Acids Amines & Organometallic Compounds
UNIT 4 Chapters 18–21 · Applied Chemistry

Applied Chemistry

Covers polymers, drugs, dyes, and pesticides, then industrial processes — cement and paper manufacturing — and closes with nuclear chemistry: radioactivity, fission and fusion, and applications like radiocarbon dating and nuclear power.

How to Study This Course Effectively

01

Read the notes first. Get the mechanism in plain language before memorizing the equation or the reagent list.

02

Watch the lecture for anything unclear. Use it to fill the specific gap, not as a substitute for reading.

03

Practice the reactions, not just the theory. NEB papers lean heavily on writing out reaction sequences and mechanisms — reading about a reaction and being able to reproduce it are different skills.

04

Run the chapter MCQs as a self-check. Catch weak spots — especially in organic chemistry’s named reactions — before moving to the next chapter.

05

Revisit past board questions per chapter. NEB reuses question patterns across years, especially for organic conversions and identification tests.

Why Choose NN Education

Notes in plain language

Structured, student-friendly material written the way a teacher would say it, not the way a textbook prints it.

Reactions, not just theory

Step-by-step named reactions and mechanisms for every chapter, alongside video lectures and practice questions.

Continuously updated

Notes, solved problems, and MCQ sets are added in phases and updated regularly to help improve academic performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many chapters are in the NEB Grade XII Chemistry syllabus?

21 chapters across four content areas: General and Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Applied Chemistry.

Which unit carries the most weight in the board exam?

Organic Chemistry is the largest unit by far — 10 of the 21 chapters and roughly 43% of teaching hours — so it typically carries the heaviest weight, alongside Physical Chemistry topics like Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics.

Is this useful for engineering and medical entrance exams?

Yes — ionic equilibrium, chemical kinetics, electrochemistry, and organic reaction mechanisms form a large part of the syllabus for IOE, CEE, and MBBS/BDS preparation, so a solid grip here directly supports entrance exam prep.

What’s the best way to balance theory and reaction practice?

Read the conceptual notes first, watch the video lecture for anything unclear, then immediately practice writing out the reactions and mechanisms for that chapter before moving on. Organic chemistry especially rewards repetition over cramming.

Do all chapters carry equal importance?

No. Chapters like Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, and Aldehydes/Ketones/Carboxylic Acids are historically high-yield in board exams, while others like Paper and Pulp are lighter and more conceptual. Reviewing past papers per chapter is the most reliable way to gauge this.
